Becoming a pharmacist in the USA (as a foreign pharmacist)

College Graduate

In short, the steps you need to take to get qualified in the USA are:

1. Register successfully (not so easy!) with ECE prior to acceptance by the NABP to sit the FPGEE.

2. Sit and Pass the FPGEE.

3. Pass the iBT TOEFL test.

4. Get FPGEC certificate and apply for a state graduate internship and receive a "deficiency letter" - deficient because you don't have a Social Security Number (SSN).

5. Get a US employer to sponsor you for an H1B visa

6. Get your H1B petition picked out of the annual random lottery (held each April)

7. Get US visa and SSN, upgrade "deficiency letter" to full internship certificate and get started on internship (state specific requirements for hours).

8. Sit and pass NAPLEX

9. Sit and pass the State Law Exam (MPJE)

10. Apply for full certification.

For the real-life experience I have gone through (so far) read my blogs at:

Reading items 1 through 10 above may give the impression the process is simple: LET ME ASSURE YOU IT IS NOT!! It is a VERY difficult, almost impossibly difficult set of obstacles to overcome, and will at the very very minimum take atleast 3 years from start to finish. But if you have the absolute desire to follow that path, then I am living proof that it can be done!

Good luck to you in your journey.
